Interior painting in Leigh Sinton
We completed the interior painting and decorating of this property in Leigh Sinton, Worcestershire, covering both the original house and a new single-storey extension.
The work included walls, ceilings and woodwork throughout, with careful preparation needed to achieve a consistent finish across the existing property and newly built areas.
A consistent finish throughout
The project included both existing rooms and the new extension, so it was important that the decorating worked consistently throughout the property.
Soft neutral colours were used on the walls with white woodwork, giving a clean, even finish across the different areas of the house.
Careful preparation
Preparation was an important part of the job. Floors were protected and surfaces were checked and prepared before painting, with particular attention given to walls, ceilings, woodwork and the transition between the existing house and new extension.
Colour choice and a durable finish
The customer had selected Farrow & Ball colours, which were colour matched into Johnstone’s Trade Durable Matt.
This gave them their chosen colours with the added durability of a Class 1 scrub-rated trade paint, making it a practical choice for a busy family home.
Useful advice from this project
If you have found a colour you like, you don’t necessarily have to use that manufacturer’s paint. Many colours can be matched into different trade paint systems, allowing the paint to be chosen according to the room, finish and level of durability required.
Shrubbery Ave Exterior Painting
Converted residential flats
This distinctive period property on Shrubbery Avenue in Worcester was originally used as architects’ offices before being converted into residential flats. We were appointed to carry out exterior redecoration, including the painted timber detailing and other previously coated exterior surfaces.
The challenge
Access was one of the main considerations on this project. Parts of the building face directly onto a busy main road, while the height and architectural detailing of the property made reaching some areas more difficult.
The work therefore had to be carefully planned so that each elevation could be accessed safely while allowing us to complete the preparation and painting properly.
Preparation
As with any exterior decorating project, the longevity of the finish depends heavily on the preparation underneath it.
Previously painted surfaces were inspected and prepared as required, with loose and deteriorating coatings removed and surfaces sanded back before the appropriate primers and finishing coats were applied.
Particular attention was given to the exposed timberwork and detailing at high level, where weathering can quickly highlight weaknesses in an exterior paint system.
A durable exterior paint system applied
We used Johnstone’s Trade oil-based products for the exterior woodwork. For this property, durability and weather resistance were important considerations, particularly on exposed elevations and architectural details.
Using a proven trade paint system alongside thorough preparation provides a hard-wearing finish designed to withstand Worcester’s changing weather conditions.
The result
The completed decoration refreshed the property’s distinctive red and cream detailing while retaining the character of the original building.
The project is a good example of the exterior work we undertake on larger and older properties in Worcester, particularly where access, surface preparation and the correct choice of exterior coating require careful consideration.
